Core Value for the Month:

Our core value for this month is integrity. Integrity is doing what’s right, even when no one is watching. People who show integrity stick to what they value and believe. They strive to make the best choices even when it’s not easy, and they understand that when they show integrity, they will earn the respect of others for their good character. Teaching kids about integrity is an ongoing process. Kids will naturally make mistakes as they are learning and making choices. Our SEL Focus for this month is Honesty. Honesty is the perfect word to connect with integrity. Honesty is being truthful in what you say and do even when it’s hard or no one is watching. For kids, it means telling the truth about what happened, not stealing or cheating, and admitting mistakes.

Actionable Ways to Support Your Child’s Mental Health:

  • Foster Open Communication: Create a safe space for children to share feelings without fear of judgment. Ask open-ended questions and validate their emotions—even if you cannot "fix" the issue immediately.
  • Establish Routine & Structure: Children thrive on predictability, which reduces anxiety. Implement consistent routines for meals, homework, and sleep.
  • Provide Unconditional Love & Support: Ensure your child knows they are supported and valued, regardless of their performance or behavior, which boosts their sense of safety.
  • Encourage Healthy Habits: Promote physical activity, spending time in nature, and balanced nutrition, which are crucial for mental wellness.
  • Limit Screen Time: Set boundaries on screen time to encourage, in-person social interaction and other healthy activities.
  • Be a Good Role Model: Model positive coping skills for managing stress and big emotions. Children learn how to handle, emotions by watching their parents.
  • Recognize and Validate Behaviors: Pay attention to behavioral changes, and be attentive to your child's emotional needs and nonverbal cues.
  • Seek Professional Help: If mental health concerns persist or are severe, consult your school counselor (Mrs. Angel) or pediatrician for therapy/counseling resources. Our school has a therapist from Indian Rivers Behavioral Health that comes to school one day each week to serve students. Students need a counselor refer for this program.
