Important Information
Welcome to March! This month students will focus on the core value of being a critical thinker. Being a critical thinker means you don’t just believe everything you hear — you stop, think, and ask questions first.
Our SEL Focus will be on having a growth mindset. Fostering a growth mindset in children shifts their focus from innate ability to the power of effort and learning. By changing how you praise and talk about challenges, you can help them develop resilience and a lifelong love of learning.
Key Phrases to Say to Your Child
- "I can't do this... yet." Adding "yet" transforms a fixed statement into one of future possibility.
- "Mistakes are proof that you are learning." Re-frame errors as "brain food" that helps neurons grow.
- "I love how you didn't give up, even when it was hard." This highlights their persistence over the final result.
- "What strategy can we try next?" Encourages problem-solving rather than just "trying harder" blindly.
- "You can do hard things." A simple mantra to build confidence when they face a daunting task.
